Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992)

It is said that Count Dracula, next to Sherlock Holmes, is the most frequently portrayed characters in films. Over the decades there have been a lot of Dracula films, but the one that stands out from the rest is Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Directed by Francis Ford Coppola this is a grand and exciting film.

The best thing about the story is just how faithful it is to the novel unlike other film adaptions. While it closely follows the novel’s plot, the film brings in something new to the story which hasn’t been done before. Dracula and Mina Harker share a romantic relationship which creates a love triangle between Jonathan Harker, Mina and Dracula. Considering how well this particular plot thread was handled it is almost a shame that it wasn’t present in the novel. It is more engaging than some vampire romances.
