In recent days it seems that most horror remakes are doomed to be critically panned and hated by fans of the original. However, in this case, the film has received and maintained a positive reaction from audiences. Updating the material, Nosferatu The Vampyre is a great re-telling of the events of the original.
The greatest of all silent horror film and one of the most accomplished films ever. F.W. Murnau’s, Nosferatu is simply magnificent and a true landmark. It is so good that for almost a whole century after its release it continues to haunt rather than terrify audiences with eerie music, brilliant effects, and horrifying antagonist who beats most other vampires without making a sound.
What can you say about Will Smith? He has been in so many good films it is hard to find anything negative to say about the man. However, that does not mean that all the films he’s in are brilliant to the end. Enter, I Am Legend.
What most horror films fail to do these days is be scary or intelligent. Looking back some of the best came out of the 90′s e.g. Wes Craven’s New Nightmare, Scream, and Sleepy Hollow. However, the difining horror work comes in the form of one visceral, utterly terrifying masterpiece.
Sometimes you have to wonder if big money loaded blockbusters are as great as they used to be next to the limited budget films that emerged over the past decade. Greedy Hollywood producers seem more interested in blood stained cash cow travesties than high quality films like, let’s say…Cloverfield.
